About us

Hello and thank you for visiting Irish French Connection. This page is just to give a little background information. My name is Brendan Counihan and I live in Cork, Ireland.

I have been involved in the food industry for almost four decades, working with a member company of the Grand Met (now part of Diageo) Group, makers of Baileys Irish Cream, for almost twenty five years during which time I travelled extensively throughout Europe and worldwide. Then in 1992 I established a family business continuing my involvement in the food sector.

jpg image- Picking the olives with French Over the years visiting France has always been a pleasure for us whether on business or on holidays and for some years now we have a holiday home near Perpignan in Pyrenees Orientales. Here, at home in Cork, I have made many French friends. Out of our French class at the Alliance Francaise we formed a "French Group" and have had many social events including trips to Nice, bbq's, sailing, theatre and more.

There is an old Irish saying - Ni neart go cur le cheile. (There is no strength without coming together / unity). I feel that there is a relationship and a bond between the peoples of France and Ireland that is being largely unrecognized. With Europe ever enlarging and diversifying it is my fervent ambition that Irish French Connection can provide a co-operative forum for Irish and French families to build on a centuries (see History) old relationship of support and fellowship.
